Start With the Dress

Wedding gowns vary more than any dress you'll ever own. Many corset and structured gowns have boning and cups built in, and you may need nothing more than a pair of nipple covers. Others are open to the waist in back, plunge in front, or are made of thin satin or crepe that shows every line. Before you buy anything, ask your bridal shop or seamstress what's built into the bodice. Many can also sew cups in during alterations.

What to Wear Under a Wedding Dress

Backless and low-back gowns

The Sticky Bra gives lift and shape with nothing across your back or shoulders, so an open back stays clean in every photo.

Plunges, illusion necklines and cut-outs

Boob Tape follows the neckline wherever it goes; wear nipple covers underneath. The Lift Bundle pairs it with the Sticky Bra, which helps when your ceremony gown and reception dress need different solutions.

Satin, crepe and fitted bodices

The Original Sticky Boobs smooth everything under thin bridal fabric. For a long day in a snug bodice, especially with sensitive skin, choose our Non-Adhesive Nipple Covers. The Cover Set includes both.

Two looks in one day

The Ultimate Bundle has the Sticky Bra, Boob Tape and both styles of covers, so one kit handles the ceremony, the reception and the after-party.

For Bridesmaids and Guests

The same thinking works on the other side of the aisle. Bridesmaid dresses are often strapless or low-back and picked for the group rather than for you, so a sticky bra is an easy fix when the bodice doesn't give you enough support. Guests tend to wear slip dresses, wraps and halters to celebrations that run from afternoon into late night. Nipple covers handle most of those, with tape for anything that plunges.

Your Wedding-Day Plan

  • Bring it to your fittings. Alterations should be made over the exact bra, tape or covers you'll wear, since they change how the bodice sits.
  • Do a full rehearsal. Wear the dress, or one cut the same way, for a few hours. Sit, hug, dance and raise your arms.
  • Apply before hair and makeup. Skin should be clean, dry and free of lotion, body oil, deodorant and shimmer. Use a cool room, not a steamy bathroom.
  • Pack a small kit. Blotting papers, a spare pair of covers and the oil you'll need to take tape off at the end of the night.

A Few Honest Notes

Outdoor and summer weddings mean heat, and heavy sweat challenges every adhesive, so plan for some shade and keep blotting. Patch test anything new well before the day if your skin is sensitive, and skip adhesive on sunburned, broken or irritated skin. If you've had breast surgery, wait for your surgeon's OK. Most important of all: never wear an adhesive for the first time on your wedding day.

Wedding & Bridal: common questions

What do you wear under a wedding dress?

It depends on the gown's back and neckline. Many structured gowns need only nipple covers, backless gowns usually call for a sticky bra, and plunging or illusion necklines are easiest with boob tape.

What bra works under a backless wedding dress?

An adhesive bra with no band, like our Sticky Bra, gives lift with a fully open back. If the gown also plunges in front, use boob tape over nipple covers instead, since a center clasp could show.

Will a sticky bra last through a whole wedding day?

It can, when you apply it to clean, dry, oil-free skin before you get dressed. Heat and heavy sweat are the main risks, so for an outdoor summer wedding, keep blotting papers nearby and do a long test run first.

Can you have cups sewn into a wedding dress?

Yes, many seamstresses can add bra cups to a lined bodice during alterations. Sewn-in cups suit structured gowns; for very open backs or deep plunges, adhesive options are usually easier.

Should I bring my bra to my wedding dress fittings?

Yes. Bring the exact sticky bra, tape or covers you plan to wear, so alterations are made over them; the way they shape your bust changes how the bodice fits.
