How to Apply Boob Tape for Maximum Lift

Boob tape is one of the most versatile tools in your styling kit, but only if you apply it correctly. Done right, it gives you lift that rivals any push-up bra without a single strap or wire in sight. Done wrong, it peels off in an hour and you spend the night holding your dress up. Here is how to get it right every time.

Step 1: Prep Your Skin

This is where most people go wrong. Your skin needs to be completely clean, dry, and free of any products. That means no moisturizer, no body oil, no spray tan residue, and no sunscreen on your chest area. Wash with soap, pat dry, and wait a few minutes before applying.

If you tend to get oily or sweaty, a light dusting of translucent powder on your skin can help the tape grip even better.

Step 2: Cut Your Strips

Cut your Boob Tape ($18) into strips before you start. For most people, strips of about eight to ten inches work well. You will typically need two to four strips per side, depending on your cup size and the level of lift you want.

Round the corners of each strip with scissors. Rounded edges are less likely to peel up than sharp corners.

Step 3: Lift and Place

Here is the technique that makes all the difference:

  • Lean forward slightly so gravity helps you position your breast where you want it.
  • Anchor the bottom end of the tape strip under the base of your breast.
  • Use your other hand to lift your breast up and to the desired position.
  • Smooth the tape upward, pulling gently as you go, and anchor the top end on your upper chest or toward your shoulder.
  • Press firmly along the entire strip for ten seconds to activate the adhesive.

Step 4: Layer for Maximum Hold

One strip rarely does the job alone. Apply a second strip slightly overlapping the first, following the same lift-and-smooth technique. For larger busts or dramatic lift, add a third strip. Each additional strip adds security and lift.

Pro Tips

  • Apply Non-Adhesive Nipple Covers ($25) before taping to protect sensitive skin and create a smoother final look.
  • Do not stretch the very ends of the tape. Only stretch the middle section. This prevents the ends from peeling.
  • Move around, raise your arms, and test your range of motion before getting dressed.
  • For removal, use warm water or oil to loosen the adhesive. Never rip tape off dry.

Master this technique once and you will never go back to fighting with a strapless bra again.
